She graduated in 1976, from the Painting Department (with Professor Radenko Mi\u0161evi\u0107) of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, and completed postgraduate studies in 1978. She received a grant from the Greek government in 1980\/81, and from the Fulbright Commission for studies in the USA in 1985\/86. From 1983 to 1989 she worked for the Cultural Programme of Radio Television Belgrade \u2212 Friday Nights at Ten. She worked and lived as free-lance artist in Belgrade.<\/p>\n<p>She was a member of the Association of Serbian Artists.<\/p>\n<p>She had her first solo exhibition in 1980 in Belgrade (with several to follow), then in Athens, Sveti Stefan, New York, Budva, \u010ca\u010dak, Kraljevo, Novi Pazar, Kru\u0161evac, Paris, U\u017eice.\u00a0 From 1975 onwards she participated in many group exhibitions locally and abroad. She made several videos.<\/p>\n<p>From a distance of ten years one has a much more realistic picture of the creative opus of Rada Selakovi\u0107, so suddenly interrupted in 2008. We can now confirm with conviction that it surpassed \u201ethe close-up gaze\u201c that was the only possible view art historians and theorists could have had on her output. The more or less inventive chroniclers of the beginnings of Rada Selakovi\u0107 related them to realism. They did not recognise on several occasions when she applied for the position of an Assistant for Drawing at the Faculty of Fine Arts. They did not recognise or &#8230;. The period of her studies represented a specific conceptual engagement reflected in ball-room dresses she would wear, for example, for \u2013<em>Mosaic <\/em>classes. Festively costumed, with theatrical make-up, particularly noticeable when she was at the Faculty of Fine Arts, notwithstanding the usual expectations regarding the outfit of an art student \u2013 Rada Selakovi\u0107 was in fact enacting a lasting performance. Perhaps one could say that it was a project called \u201ean artist should be beautiful all the time\u201c or \u201ean artist is special\u201c&#8230; In all the cycles of her creation, concept was an important element. For example, what one could read as eroticism and erotic (acrylite, segments of golden bodies on rice paper) can also be experienced as a game and as the decoration of the world, but it would then have too little influence on the essence of man and (that art) could not last. Great art is the one that has influence on man and humanity \u2013 it is revolutionary art. In many different ways. Its radicalism need not be instrumental. This secured a lasting quality to Rada\u2019s works where the complexity has yet to be read and understood.<\/p>\n<table class=\"tcentar\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zeptermuseum.rs\/sites\/default\/files\/10_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"226\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>PLIVAJ U OGLEDALU DRAGI \/ <em>SWIM IN THE MIRROR MY DEAR<\/em>, 1986 (detalj \/<em>detail<\/em>)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>In many, if not in all, areas of life everything that brought the generation of Rada Selakovi\u0107 to the end of their studies has become problematic. In three unrealised segments of her <em>Cosmography (Air, Earth, Water)<\/em> we can firmly say that she recognised the new feeling drifting in the air: sciences brought radical changes in evaluations, in historic understanding, social systems, the basic concepts of physics, aesthetics and aesthetic dogmas&#8230; At the same time the respect for new discoveries and concepts was born, but also scepticism towards them. By using the experience she had acquired through previous cycles, Rada Selakovi\u0107 began in 2001 her researches in the four-part <em>Cosmographies: Air <\/em>2001<em>, Earth <\/em>2005<em>, Water <\/em>2007, while the realisation of the fourth \u2013 <em>Fire<\/em> &#8211; was planned for 2008. She did not then, just as she had not done before, work impulsively, instinctively, in the swing of inspiration. Like a scientist, she first conscientiously analysed all the elements and layers of the initial conception in concurrence with the time she lived in. In other words, she drew attention \u201cto general values lost in the flood of trivialities and false politicising\u201d. It was just for that reason that Rada treated the Earth as a planet, as a living matter, as a nucleus \u2013 the essence. The accent was on the necessary unity of man and the Earth. We could form only a general opinion that it was about ecology, since the problem touches upon everything, first of all mental ecology, and serves as a specific warning. When \u201cwe are talking about pollution we must not forget mental hygiene, new technologies that introduce into the real life an emotional intelligence, sympathy \u2013 that forgotten word \u2013 and also the relationship of one man towards another. In fact, in her entire opus, she was endeavouring to re-establish the severed contact between the artist and the community. The messages emanated by <em>Cosmography<\/em> are so loud that they must be heard by those they are sent to. The artist remained in touch with the fate of humanity, because the essential question was not: what were the aspirations of art, but: to what was humankind turning to. Still, her collusion with scientific researches, her interest in new technologies \u2013 as reflected in her works \u2013 confirm that she was best situated in her age as a creator. And even more than that, owing to her humane sensibility, born from her middle-class cultural upbringing, she was able to predict what arrived a decade later.<\/p>\n<p>Her realism, the period of abstract pictures, her video-recordings, the sound, the drawing, graphic prints, numerous well- and studiously prepared television clips on the current developments in visual arts and her portraits of artists for the prestigious programme <em>Fridays at 10 pm<\/em> \u2013 all of that belonged to the output of Rada Selakovi\u0107, an independent multimedia artist.<\/p>\n<p>In order to understand the complex opus of Rada Selakovi\u0107 in all its significance and meaning one needs a young researcher, a good reader \u2013 a historian and\/or a theorist of art who understands the history of film and video art, who recognises the current influences of sciences on and within the arts, and feels that her art had made such a magnificent step forward into the future that its true interpreters have yet Nisu prepoznali ili&#8230; A vreme studija je predstavljalo taj osoben konceptualni anga\u017eman koji se o\u010dituje u balskim haljinama u kojima je dolazila na, recimo \u2013 Mozaik. Sve\u010dano kostimirana, pod scenskom \u0161minkom, \u0161to je za vreme studija bilo posebno upe\u010datljivo i mimo uvre\u017eenog mi\u0161ljenja kako student FLU treba da izgleda \u2013 Rada Selakovi\u0107 je zapravo izvodila vi\u0161egodi\u0161nji performans. Mo\u017eda bi se smelo re\u0107i da je re\u010d o projektu \u201eumetnik mora uvek da bude lep\u201c ili \u201eumetnik je osoben\u201c&#8230; Koncept je u svim ciklusima njenog stvarala\u0161tva va\u017ean podtekst. Ono \u0161to se, na primer, \u010dita kao erotika i eroti\u010dno (kliriti, segmenti zlatnih tela na pirin\u010danim papirima) mo\u017ee da se do\u017eivi kao igra i kao dekoracija sveta, ali tada bi premalo uticala na b\u00eet \u010doveka i ne bi mogla (ta umetnost) da traje. Velika umetnost je ona koja uti\u010de na \u010doveka, pa otud i na \u010dove\u010danstvo \u2013 to je revolucionarna umetnost. Ona to mo\u017ee biti na razli\u010dite na\u010dine. Njena radikalnost ne mora biti instrumentalna. Ona mo\u017ee, kao Radini kliriti i zlatni crte\u017ei, senzibilizacijom \u010doveka da vr\u0161i pripremu svesti i savesti i da tako uti\u010de na humanost i opstane u vremenskim Kroz tri realizovana segmenta njene <em>Kozmografije<\/em> (<em>Vazduh<\/em>, <em>Zemlja<\/em>, <em>Voda<\/em>) sa sigurno\u0161\u0107u mo\u017eemo da tvrdimo da je u vazduhu prepoznala da lebdi neko novo ose\u0107anje \u017eivota: nauke donose korenite promene u ocenjivanju vrednosti, istorijska shvatanja, dru\u0161tvene sisteme, osnovne pojmove fizike, eti\u010dke i estetske dogme\u2026 Ra\u0111a se istovremeno uva\u017eavanje novih otkri\u0107a i stavova kao i podozrenje prema njima. Tu Rada Selakovi\u0107, koriste\u0107i sva svoja iskustva gra\u0111ena kroz prethodne cikluse, 2001. po\u010dinje istra\u017eivanja u \u010detvorodelnim <em>Kozmografijama<\/em>: <em>Vazduh<\/em> 2001, <em>Zemlja<\/em> 2005, <em>Voda<\/em> 2007, a \u010detvrta \u2013 <em>Vatra<\/em> \u2013 trebalo je da bude realizovana (2008). Ni tada, kao ni ranije u nekim \u201ejednostavnijim\u201c zadacima koje je postavljala ispred sebe ona ne stvara impulsivno, nagonski, u naletu inspiracije. Poput nau\u010dnika, ona predano razra\u0111uje sve elemente i slojeve inicijalne zamisli posve u dosluhu s vremenom u kome \u017eivi. Ona, dakle, skre\u0107e pa\u017enju \u201ena op\u0161te vrednosti koje su se danas izgubile u moru trivijalnosti i la\u017ene ispolitizovanosti\u201c. Upravo stoga Selakovi\u0107eva obra\u0111uje Zemlju kao planetu, kao \u017eivu tvar, kao jezgro \u2013 esenciju. Naglasak je na neophodnom jedinstvu \u010doveka i Zemlje. Samo u naj\u0161irem smislu mo\u017eemo da pretpostavimo da je re\u010d o ekologiji jer ovaj se problem ti\u010de, pre svega \u2013 mentalne ekologije i svojevsna je opomena. Jer, \u201ekad govorimo o zaga\u0111enju ne smemo da zaboravimo na mentalnu higijenu, na novu tehnologiju koja u stvarni \u017eivot uvodi emocionalnu inteligenciju, saose\u0107anje, tako zaboravljenu re\u010d, dakle i odnos \u010doveka prema \u010doveku. A tu tako\u0111e ima mnogo zaga\u0111enja.\u201c<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" Zapravo, re\u010d je tu \u2013 u celokupnom njenom opusu \u2013 i o nastojanju da se ponovo uspostavi prekinuti dodir izme\u0111u umetnika i zajednice. Jer poruke, posebno <em>Kozmografije<\/em>, toliko su va\u017ene da ih mora \u010duti onaj kome su upu\u0107ene. Umetnica ostaje povezana sa sudbinom \u010dove\u010danstva, jer osnovno pitanje ne glasi \u2013 \u010demu te\u017ei umetnost nego kuda se okre\u0107e \u010dove\u010danstvo. Ta <em>Objava: Vazduh, Zemlja, Voda<\/em> \u2013 na izvestan na\u010din obja\u0161njava i njene prethodne cikluse, \u0161to sve dokazuje da Rada Selakovi\u0107 nije proizvodila nego je bila Me\u0111utim, njen dosluh s nau\u010dnim istra\u017eivanjima, zainteresovanost za nove tehnologije, \u0161to se sve ogleda u njenom stvarala\u0161tvu, dokazuju da je bila na najbolji na\u010din kao graditelj situirana u svom vremenu.
